Chicken Souvlaki with Tzatziki

Chicken Souvlaki with Tzatziki is a Greek appetiser. Souvlaki denotes chunks of meat and vegetables, as per taste, grilled on a skewer; ‘souvlaki’ is Greek for ‘skewer’. Often, the most popular sauce that accompanies it is an exotic yet simple Tzatziki sauce made with yogurt and cucumber.
Chicken Souvlaki with Tzatziki is mild yet pungent on the palate. Follow the instructions below for a beautiful and easy chicken appetiser!

Chicken Souvlaki
Serves 2-3
300g boneless chicken, medium cut
1 tsp black pepper powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp mixed herbs
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp garlic paste
1 tbsp olive oil
Olive oil for grilling

Step 1: Wash and marinate the chicken pieces with black pepper powder, salt, mixed herbs, lemon juice, garlic paste, and olive oil, for at least 30-40 minutes.
Step 2: Soak wooden skewers in water for 10 minutes. Fix the pieces of marinated chicken onto these wooden skewers and set aside on a plate.
Step 3: Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a grill pan. On low flame, grill the chicken skewers in batches of 2-3, for 10-15 minutes. Drizzle the marinade over the chicken so that the flavours are incorporated well.
Step 4: Turn it over on all sides so that they are grilled evenly. Serve hot with Pita bread or Tzatziki!

Makes 1 bowl
1/3 cup hung yogurt
1/2 cup diced cucumber
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp garlic paste
1 tsp olive oil
1/2 tsp mixed herbs
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper powder

Step 1: Drain the excess water from the cucumber.
Step 2: Mix all the above ingredients in a bowl. Serve it cold with Chicken Souvlaki!
